Upload PDF to WordPress

This procedure explains how to upload PDF to WordPress, specifically the hosted WordPress – WordPress.org.  It is much better to publish PDFs  on websites than WORD documents (DOCs). PDFs are safer, and can easily be printed to most printers.

  1. If your document was in WORD, you should be able to save it as a PDF
  2. Make sure your PDF has a useful, well optimized name, describing the topic. Avoid using spaces, and use hyphens instead.
  3. Avoid a large file size. Its better to keep your PDF  well under 2MB, so that it does not take too long for website  users  to access. The smaller the better!
  4. Go into your WordPress dashboard
  5. Click on Media on left
  6. Click on Add New
  7. Click on Select Files
  8. Find your PDF on your computer and select it. It will now upload. This should take a few seconds
  9. You will see a File URL at the bottom. This is the hyperlink (link) to your PDF on the server
  10. Copy and paste this File URL into a text editor or WORD
  11. You can add a Caption and Description if you wish. You can also change the Title
  12. Click on Save all changes
  13. Edit the page or post where you wish to include the PDF
  14. In the body of your page/post, type something like Click here to get a PDF flyer ……..
  15. Highlight the above wording. Click on the Hyperlink button (looks like a chain in the top row of the tool bar).
  16. In the Link URL, paste the File URL that you had saved above
  17. Change the target to Open Link in a New Window. This means that the PDF will show in a separate window  to your website
  18. Click on Insert
  19. Click on Update Page or Post
  20. Voila! You are done.
  21. View this page on your website, and make sure the PDF link works!
