Benefits of Conversion Tracking
Having access to conversion data in your reports enables you to make smarter online advertising decisions, particularly about what ads and keywords you invest in. Given better data, you can measure your overall return on investment (ROI) for your AdWords campaigns much more effecively
Where do you find it
Google Adwords Conversion Tracking is found under the Reporting Tab – Conversions in your Google Adwords account.
How do you set it up?
Firstly, Conversion Tracking is free. Secondly, its relatively easy to set up. Below is an example:
1. Click on New conversion
2. Give it an Action Name. This can be Sale, SignUp etc
3. Choose a Tracking Purpose (category), for example Purchase/Sale
4. Click on Save and Continue
5. This will take you to the Code Settings
6. Choose Page Security Level of your action (also known as conversion or success) page. This is HTTP or HTTPS
7. Put in revenue for your conversion. This is purely for reporting purposes. Leave it blank if unsure
8. Choose Page Language, example English
9. Choose Text Format for “Google Site Stats”. People will only see this on the action page if they had reached that page as a result of Google Adwords
10. Customize background color. Should be the same as your action page
11. Save and Get Code
12. You will then be provided HTML that you copy and paste into the source of your conversion/action page . You need to paste this conversion tracking code between the body tags of your conversion page(s)
13. If someone else manages your website, then email the instructions to them by clicking on Send Conversion Tracking Code to Somebody Else
